Mission of Abounding Hope Counseling

At Abounding Hope, our mission is to provide high-quality counseling services to individuals, couples, and families who are experiencing emotional or psychological difficulties. Whether you're navigating school issues, emotional regulation, or life transitions, you'll work with someone who understands the West Texas community and the families it serves.  Let's work together to restore or build more hope and joy for your journey through this gift we call, life.

You can expect a therapeutic approach that blends client-centered methods with evidence-based practices, including Play Therapy, Theraplay, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Acceptance Commitment Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy and elements of Dialectical Behavior Therapy.  If you have questions about a specific therapy model, please do not hesitate to ask.

Our first meeting will focus on gathering pertinent information, determining a 'good fit' for working together, and formulating your personal therapy goals.

Children & Play

Mission of Abounding Hope Counseling

Mission of Abounding Hope Counseling

Play is the most developmentally appropriate medium for a child's healthy brain development while also helping to process difficult experiences, learn social skills, self-regulate and build attachment relationships.  Since play is the natural language of children, it gives them opportunity to express their emotions symbolically, making the connection between abstract and concrete thoughts, learn coping skills and build their self-confidence.

Attachment influences all stages of development and shapes the way a child relates to the world.  Theraplay is a child and family focused therapy for building attachment, self-esteem, trust in others, and joyful engagement. It is based on the natural patterns of playful, healthy interaction between parent and child and is personal, active, and fun.

Sessions can include just your child, or both parents and child together, depending on what works best for your family.  Counseling within the context of your families' dynamics is paramount for maintaining or restoring the joy of parenthood.

Adolescents, Young Adults & Adults

Adolescents, Young Adults & Adults

As children grow into adolescents, they are developmentally unique with continued brain maturation and constantly in the process of discovering the social skills and emotional intelligence necessary to lead healthy, happy lives. Impulse control, decision-making, emotional regulation and peer influences are real struggles.  Teens might be avoidant or resistant, participating in therapy at a parent's request, making engagement a key challenge in adolescent therapy.

In working with teens an emphasis on building rapport and trust while processing feelings and experiences with traditional talk therapy is effective.  However, therapies that allow teens to express themselves non-verbally are also often used since some may find it difficult to articulate feelings.

Transitioning from adolescence into adulthood can be an overwhelming phase of life.  Expectations to be independent and successful are met with the reality of responsibility.  Giving young adults goal direction and hope for their future through processing their adjustment to adult life is the purpose of counseling this group of future leaders, caregivers and overall good citizens.

Adults are faced with many issues as life progresses.  In working with adults, identifying and processing through struggles, and actively seeking solution-focused goals is important for progress.  Adult clients should expect to be actively involved in developing their plan of treatment and taking ownership of their goals and progress.
